Labour’s £2.5million investment in Creswell

Delivering good quality leisure facilities in Creswell was one of Duncan McGregor’s main priorities when he was re-elected in 2019.

And true to his word, these facilities are now coming to bear.

A brand new skate park has been built on land adjacent to the Model Village and work on the eagerly-awaited Creswell Health and Wellbeing Centre has started, signalling a £2.5million investment in the area.

Duncan said, “It’s vitally important that we continue to provide leisure facilities and activities for our communities. We consulted with local residents on the proposals and they told us know what they would like to see and we have acted upon this and are providing it.

“Along with my colleagues on the District and Parish Council, we are delighted that the skate park is now finished and work on the new leisure centre has started signalling a brand new start for the area.”

Skateboarding was a huge success at the Tokyo Olympics and its popularity is soaring, so this new skate park will provide young and older riders the opportunity to perfect their skills or a place where they can enjoy the sport. The park will accommodate all types of wheeled sports such as scooters, skateboards, BMX and inline skaters.

Whilst the new health and wellbeing centre will include the following facilities:

  • 27 station gym
  • Climbing wall and caving experience
  • One group exercise studio
  • Soft play area
  • Two badminton court sports hall
  • Café

Duncan has been working on bringing the new leisure facility to the village for five-years and work is due to be completed by the end of 2022, providing a place for all members of the community to get fit, live healthier, be an educational resource and socialise with friends and neighbours.

Funding and support for the projects has come from Bolsover District Council, Elmton-with-Creswell, Parish Council, Derbyshire County Council, Viridor, Big Local and Bolsover Partnership.

“I would like to thank our partners and supporters for all their help, support and funding that have enabled these projects to happen and I can’t wait for them to be fully open and available. I firmly believe that everyone, regardless of age, income or background should be able to enjoy access to sports and leisure facilities so we can help people live an active and healthy lifestyle and that’s what we are providing here in Creswell.”
