New kitchen that has been installed at Parkfields

Keeping our elderly safe and warm

As the Conservative controlled Derbyshire County Council (DCC) are on the brink of closing seven care homes in Derbyshire (two of which are in Bolsover District – East Clune in Clowne and Holmlea in Tibshelf), we continue to invest in ours and help protect the elderly and vulnerable.

Work to a £1.5million refurbishment of Parkfields in Clowne (ironically the village where the Cabinet Member at DCC who is responsible for adult care lives) is coming to a close.
It has seen the flats refurbished with full wet rooms and new multi-sensor alarm systems installed to improve fire safety.

The residents lounge has also been refurbished and works to an outside patio are being finished off and will provide a lovely area for them to sit in the summer and enjoy the fresh air.
The communal heating in the complex has also been replaced with individual systems that provide the tenants with independent control of their heating and will improve the efficiency of their heating and hot water systems.

Labour councillor Sandra Peake who is responsible for housing at the Council said, “We have proven that you can refurbish and modernise these type of premises without the need for closing them or moving people out. It just takes a bit of foresight and planning.

“We take our responsibilities very seriously when it comes to protecting and supporting our elderly and vulnerable and you can see from the end product what can be achieved.”
Dennis who is a resident at Parkfields said, “It’s absolutely lovely. Lovely. Smart. I am happy with it. It was a big room with a bed in corner and I have got a nice little separate bedroom now. The shower and wet room have made a big difference. I love it.”

Work is also continuing on a £2.5 million scheme at Ashbourne Court in Shirebrook, a £1.5million scheme at Valley View in Hillstown and plans are being put forward for the refurbishment of Jubilee Court in Pinxton.
